SOP for Cleaning of Raw water storage Tank
I. Purpose & Scope:
- The Purpose of this SOP is to lay down the procedure for Cleaning of Raw water storage Tank
- This procedure is applicable Engineering Department personnel for Cleaning of Raw water storage Tank
II. Responsibilities:
• All Engineering personnel shall be responsible to follow and implement this SOP.
III. Introduction and Procedural Part:
Precautions:
- Ensure that personnel shall wear appropriate personal protective equipment’s like hand gloves, safety belt, safety ladder, safety goggles etc. during the cleaning operation.
- Open the manhole cover for the ventilation for person while cleaning inside of the tank.
Cleaning Procedure for Under Ground Tank:
- Open the manhole cover of compartment of underground raw water.
- Display a status board “MEN AT WORK” and place a safety ladder in the tank to facilitate entry of the cleaning crew inside the tank
- Connect the water pump having flexible hose pipe to the raw water tank and remove all the water from tank.
- Remove all water and mud (if any) collected at the bottom of the tank with the help of plastic scoops and buckets.
- Clean the wall and bottom of the tank by thoroughly rubbing the surface with the nylon brush.
- Flush the entire rubbed surface with clean water.
- Repeat the steps number 5 and 6 and remove out all the collected water in the bottom sump of the tank with the help of plastic scoops and buckets.
- Prepare solution 1liter of NaOCl (Commercial grade) dissolved in 100 liters of water and again rub the entire tank surface with the cotton cloth dipped in the NaOCl solution.
- Flush the entire inside surface of the tank with raw water twice and remove out all the collected water in the bottom sump of the tank with the help of plastic scoops and buckets.
- Follow the steps number 4 to 6 for cleaning the raw water tank.
- After the cleaning is done fill the underground water tank and start the operation of the primary water system.
- Take Sample of raw water in 100 ml beaker and visually check for clarity /suspended particles.
- Make entry in the tank cleaning in Annexure I
- Update the cleaning status label on the tank.
- Cleaning shall be done once in quarterly or if analysis results are not within the limit.
