Sop for Operation and Cleaning of Vortex mixer

I. Purpose & Scope:

  • The purpose of this SOP is to lay down the procedure for Operation and Cleaning of Vortex mixer .
  • This Standard operating procedure shall be applicable for Operation and Cleaning of Vortex mixer in the Microbiology section of Quality Control Department

II. Responsibilities:

  • All Quality control personnel shall be responsible to follow and implement this SOP.

III : Introduction and Procedural Part :

Safety Instruction : 

  • During manual operation, keep medium vessel vertical as much as possible, mix the medium in the minimum required pressure.
  • Do not operate the instrument in explosive atmospheres, with hazardous substances or under water.
  • Increase the speed of mixer gradually; reduce the speed if the medium splashes out of the vessel because of too high speed.
  • Place a vessel at the center of the mixing head and spread out others uniformly.
  • The instrument may only be opened by service engineers.

Operation :

Continuous operation : 

  • Put the instrument on the stable and safe place and plug in the main power.
  • Push the bi-directional switch leftward and power LED is lit. Instrument is now ready to work.
  • Turn the motor regulation knob to set the speed.
  • Push the bi-directional switch rightward gently and LED is off. Instrument is now turned off.
  • To protect instrument from overheating, do not operate the instrument more than 30 minutes continuously.
  • Turn regulation knob smoothly so that instrument works smoothly.

Touch operation :

  • Put the instrument on the stable and safe place and plug in the main power.
  • Push the bi-direction switch rightward to the touch mode.
  • Turn the motor regulation knob to set the speed.
  • If the test tube is pressed into the mixing head vertically, the instrument will begin to work and power LED will be lit.
  • Push the bi-direction switch leftward gently and LED is off. Instrument is now turned off.

Maintenance and Cleaning :

  • Proper maintenance can keep instruments working in good state and lengthen its lifetime.
  • Clean the instrument with 70% IPA carefully. Do not to spray the cleanser (70% IPA) into the instrument when cleaning.
  • Unplug the power line when cleaning.
  • Wear the gloves during cleaning of the instrument.
  • Add the 70% IPA on lint free cloth and wipe the instrument with cloth.
  • Keep the instrument clean and prevent liquid splashing into the instrument.
