This Document describes (Standard Operating procedure) Sop for Sodium Hexa Meta Phosphate  solution preparation (SHMP), it is used to removes hardness in water by combining with metal ions such as calcium, magnesium and iron. It is also called antiscalent/water softening agent.

I. Purpose & Scope:

• The Purpose of this SOP is to lay down the procedure for Sop for Sodium Hexa Meta Phosphate  solution preparation (SHMP).
• This procedure is applicable Engineering Department personnel for Sop for Sodium Hexa Meta Phosphate solution preparation (SHMP).

II. Responsibilities:

• All Engineering personnel shall be responsible to follow and implement this SOP.

III. Introduction and Procedural Part:

Procedure :

Sodium Hexa Meta Phosphate Dosing System (Dosage of 4 ppm for Anti scaling):

• Prepare sodium Hexa Meta phosphate solution in the tank.
• Clean the dosing tank.
• Suspended matter should not be present.
• Suction float of the dosing pump should be properly immersed in the dosing solution.
• For proper dosage, check no air is locked in the suction & discharge side of dosing tube.
• Add 140 gms of sodium hexa meta phosphate of LR grade in the tank & add 20 ltr. of RO permeate water.
• The flow rate of the dosing pump should be maintained 40 strokes per minute.( set the knob at the 40 marking on the dial behind dosing pump).

• Sample should be taken after cartridge filter sampling point since it provides proper mixing of sodium meta-bi-sulphite in the RO feed water for Dichlorinations.
• Free chlorine should be nil.
• All data shall be recorded in Annexure I
