Standard test procedure of BOPP Tape (Biaxially oriented poly propylene).

1.Description:

Following visual checking to be carried out 

Procedure: Examine the tap in day light for appearance

Brownish colour self-adhesive BOPP (Biaxially oriented poly propylene) tape.

Free from dust & any foreign particles. Film is winded on round paper core (visual check)

Note down the results in test data sheet

2.Thickness of film:

(Test to be performed on maximum five sampled rolls)

Instrument: Digital Micrometer

Procedure: Measure the Thickness of film by using micrometer screw gauge.

Note down the results in test data sheet of Standard test procedure of BOPP Tape.

3.Width:

(Test to be performed on maximum five sampled rolls)

Instrument: Scale

Procedure: Measure the width by using foot ruler.

Note down the results in test data sheet

4. Adhesion property: (Test to be performed on maximum five sampled rolls)

Procedure: Should stick to the subtract (i.e. kraft paper) firmly and while removing from substrate at least 50% portion should come along with tape, that indicates the adhesion property is good (visual check)

5. Winding: (Test to be performed on maximum five sampled rolls)

Procedure: Winding on paper core should be tight and perfect (visual check)

6. Core diameter: (Test to be performed on maximum five sampled rolls)

Instruments: Scale

Procedure: Measure with either Vernier caliper.

Note down the results in test data sheet

7. Gum content: (Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Instrument: Scale

Procedure: Cut the 5 x 5 cms piece of foil by using scale and cutter.

Weigh it on analytical balance and note down the weight in test data sheet (W1)

Keep piece of tape on a table upside down position (i.e. sticky side will come at the top).

Take cotton and dip in beaker containing ethyl acetate.

Wipe the sticky side of tape with wet cotton.

Dry the tape at room temperature

Weigh it on analytical balance and note down the weight in test data sheet (W2)

Calculate gum content of tape as per formula given below:

Calculation:

Weight of piece in gm (W1-W2)                       10000

GSM=   ——————————————-  x   ——————————-

Length of piece in cms                          width of piece in cms
