Procedural part of Standard Test Procedure for Printed Carton :

1.Description:

Following visual checking to be carried out for

Procedure:

Examine the carton in day light for appearance.

No letters from Text matter should either erased or become fade. Forming carton should formed straight & not oblong. No sticking of cartons with each other due to pasting glue. Cartons should properly packed in a bundle with paper wrapper and finally should be packed in corrugated box.

2. Board quality:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Procedure: Should be in accordance with approved sample.

3.Text matter:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Procedure: Should be as per approved artwork or approved specimen.

4. Length:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Instrument: Scale

Procedure: Measure the Length in mm by foot ruler

5.Breadth:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Instrument: Scale

Procedure: Measure the  Breadth in mm by foot ruler

6.Height:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Instrument: Scale

Procedure: Measure the Height in mm by foot ruler

7.Side Pasting:

Procedure: Check the carton for perfect pasting by actual tearing at side pasting & while tearing more than 50% portion should stick to substrate that indicates good pasting. Note down the results in test data sheet

8.Lock-bottom pasting:

Procedure: Lock-bottom pasting. It shouldn’t tear easily & while tearing more than 50% portion should stick to substrate, that indicates good pasting.

9. Interlocking:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Procedure: The Top Tuck-in flap should have cut marks so that when it tucks into carton, flap hold perfectly & doesn’t come out.

10. Color scheme:

(Test to be performed on maximum five  samples)

Should match with approved colour shade card or approved specimen.

11. Creasing:

Procedure: Carton’s all 4 sides & Top flap should have proper creasing (folding).

12. Printing quality:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Procedure: Text matter should be clear, legible & sharp. No smudging should be observed.

13.Grammage:

(Test to be performed on maximum five samples)

Instrument: Scale

Procedure: Cut 5 x 5 cms piece or 10 x10 cms piece depends on the size of carton.

Weigh it on analytical balance

Calculate the grammage of carton as per formula given below

Length of piece in cms                  width of piece in cms
